“积极的” or “Positive”

The first thing I decided was to follow a style of Chinese lettering and carve into the clay with these symbols to give my pieces a collective component. Then, I decided I wanted to spread positive messages and words in those symbols. If you can keep a positive outlook on as many things as you can, life itself will be more enjoyable. This is so that when looking at the title of the collection, you would understand what the lettering may mean. Most of my pieces were all thrown on the wheel and then once trimmed and leather hard, I was able to carve into them with the phrases and words I chose. I used wax and underglaze so the paint would only stay into the carved area. The final vase I made was hand-built using the coil technique and wheel thrown. That piece is definitely my favorite as I spent by far the most time on this piece. I scored and slipped every individual shape you see on there, I created all the shapes just to be the right width and size and hair dried the pieces to prevent anything from going wrong. I created this work because at my mom's house, there is this collection of vases with a similar style as mine and I thought they looked amazing. Those vases stayed in my head but I wanted to put my own twist to them. My outlook on the world and living is mainly to try to keep a positive attitude and outlook on as many things as you can, which is why I made the lettering to hide these small messages.
